2016 Research partnerships
SMECC also works with other agencies and academic institutions to identify opportunities to develop local research projects in the region.
In 2016 SMECC has been working with Latrobe University to facilitate research into understanding the socioeconomic situation of Pacific Islanders living in regional Victoria.
Later in 2016 SMECC will also be working with Monash University to lead local research into the delicate area of unlawful work. This research project will aim to map the trends and extent of unlawful migrant labour in the Sunraysia Mallee District, also looking at how local employment practices influence this.
In 2015 SMECC helped undertake research through the Uni of Melbourne & Uni of Wollongong with the Burundian community which helped to recently establish the Food Next Door - Burundian Garden Project.
