In 2015 SMECC worked with Mildura Rural City Council (MRCC) to develop some easily understandable storyboards to help new arrivals understand local water safety risks. This was in response to the unfortunate local water death of an Afghan community member in 2014.
In 2016 we have expanded this project to develop a range of storyboards and information to support emergency preparedness of new community members. The information comes from the MRCC Ready, React, Recover resource. We are taking this project to the next level in 2016 by developing scripts explaining the key messages behind a range of storyboards. Our bi-lingual workers will then voiceover these scripts in Farsi and Kirundi languages - with the story boards and voiceovers then put together into a simple video production. This dvd will then be shown as part of community orientation activities for new arrival community members, and to all clients at SMECC reception. In addition to water safety, topic areas to be included in this years storyboards will include; - Heatwaves - Bushfires - Power Outages - Urban Flooding |
